Pretoria, South Africa: August, 27 2021: United Way South Africa (UWSA), the country entity of United Way Worldwide (UWW), has partnered with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) in order to advance the common good - assisting disadvantaged communities with ease of access to COVID-19 vaccines. The programme will help individuals, including the youth, elderly and destitute who want to vaccinate but have no means to access vaccination centres.
Today, United Way South Africa is providing means of transport to 100 beneficiaries from their place of residence to the SARB vaccination centre in Pretoria. The organisation is also providing over 100 lunch packs to the beneficiaries, as well as after-care and support to vaccinated individuals on the day.
United Way Worldwide has been helping communities in need for more than 130 years, but the scale of the COVID-19 crisis and its far-reaching impact on people’s health, social mobility, income and job security – factors that are essential to wellbeing - has posed more challenges.
Last year 2020, United Way has been at the forefront of distributing COVID-19 relief care packs to underserved communities in need. This response has been made possible by generous donations from multiple donors as well as individuals and other partner corporations and foundations.
At United Way South Africa, we leverage the unique contributions of diverse individuals and organisations and are enriched by local knowledge and expertise in creating better lives for all. We are, therefore eager to work together with our existing partners and new partners to have more people reach vaccination centres.
