Festive Social Support Collection Drive

Greetings,

United Way South Africa (UWSA) has established a Social Support Collection Drive and is very excited to invite you to be part of this exciting initiative.

All items collected will be donated to vulnerable child headed households in Ivory Park and Tembisa. Volunteers will also be invited on the day to come together for an opportunity to connect with the beneficiaries by giving back their time during the donations packing and handover.

Volunteers will package dignity packs from all items collected and or purchased, for distribution to the beneficiaries selected. We would like to invite individuals and organizations to come forth and give towards this festive initiative, UWSA aim to impact the lives of 50 families. The Collection Drive will position vulnerable children, the youth in Secondary Schools as beneficiaries of this project.

Gauteng is one of the provinces that has households of 19% share of all provinces in the country that are food insecure.

Did you know? Statistics South Africa released a report which stated: ‘the number of persons living in extreme poverty (i.e. persons living below the 2015 Food Poverty Line of R441 per person per month) in South Africa increased by 2.8 million, from 11 million in 2011 to 13,8 million in 2015’.  This is according to Poverty Trends in South Africa: An examination of absolute poverty between 2006 and 2015.

The need for food assistance in our community remains strong, United Way South Africa is working with community partners to do whatever we can possible to help but we cannot do it alone.

Let’s join hands to help alleviate hunger and poverty in South Africa. LIVE UNITED.
