A Tembisa Women’s Month

Ms. Dikeledi Kganyago shared her personal story, as part of Women’s Month celebrations at Ivory Park Secondary School, in Tembisa. 

Relaying the challenges and trials she has faced and gone through as a woman. She said:

'Women go through challenges as young girls with finding their careers. Also challenges brought through by their families when there is already women abuse and fatalities in our midst. Women are also subjected to abuse in their marriages, which has a negative effect on their children. While there is a huge perpetual cycle of abuse, women have a choice on how to deal or handle the abuse.'

She continued...

'1. They can seek counselling as individuals, to build themselves and heal.

2. They can choose to get out of the abusive relationship, which can be a challenge when they are unemployed and have children involved.

3. They can find ways and means to earn an income, which might empower them to be independent. The list goes on and on and at the end as women, we have to pull a bull by its horns, and act in a way that will not perpetuate the cycle of abuse,' Ms. Kganyago concluded thus, and her audience of female teachers, felt motivated and empowered
