LILLY GLOBAL DAY OF SERVICE 2020 – PARTNER TO UNITED WAY

Making life better in the communities which we all live, work and play.

United Way Worldwide and United Way of Central Indiana signed a strategic partnership agreement back in 2016 - designed to drive positive, measurable social change in the areas of education, income, health and basic needs in communities. The agreement underscores Lilly’s commitment to be an increasingly strategic partner with United Way that focuses not just on money raised, but on measurable community impact in Central Indiana, as well as across the nation and around the globe.

Lilly has ties with United Way dating back nearly 100 years, when J.K. Lilly served as a member of the War Chest, a forerunner of today’s United Way. Over the decades, Lilly has partnered with United Way through workplace campaigns, advocacy and volunteerism to improve the lives of millions and build stronger communities.

Giving back to the community has been part of Lilly’s heritage for more than 140 years and ‘Global Day of Service’ is another way to give back. More than 20 000 Lilly employees come together each year to spend time serving the community - spending a day out of the office.

Last year, on the 16th of October 2019, United Way South Africa and over 45 Lilly employees came together as volunteers to serve a day at Frederic Place Home of the Age, Rahima Moosa Mother & Child Hospital and Tab Julies Pre-Primary School. This was a community project to advance the common good in the community of Coronationville, Johannesburg by creating lasting positive change to improve lives in South Africans through volunteerism.

“We are so proud to have Ely Lilly as one of our partners who collaboratively engage and participate with us to create collective sustainable impact in the communities we serve” - Lynda Bleazard (Executive Director UWSA).

On the 2nd of October 2020, we are joining again with Eli Lilly South Africa to distribute donations of masks, books, clothes, tasty treats as well as letters of comfort and support; written by Eli Lilly Employees for the 69 residents at the Frederic Home for the Aged

United Way South Africa calls upon people and organisations to bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to fight for education, financial stability, and healthy lives.
