June Reflections | Celebrating Youth. Creating Opportunities. Advancing the Common Good.

As we close Youth Month, we reflect with gratitude on a month filled with purpose, partnership, and meaningful impact.

June reminded us that investing in young people is one of the most powerful ways to build stronger, more resilient communities. Every learner inspired, every volunteer engaged, and every partnership strengthened brings us one step closer to a South Africa where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Throughout the month, United Way South Africa continued advancing our mission by creating opportunities across our four impact areas: Youth Opportunity, Healthy Communities, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency.

Promoting Wellness and Community Giving

We proudly participated in Deloitte South Africa's Wellness Day, encouraging healthier lifestyles while raising awareness and support through our Winter Sock Initiative. Together with our partners, we demonstrated that small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals during the winter season.

Championing Children's Rights

In recognition of World Day Against Child Labour, we reaffirmed our commitment to protecting children's rights and ensuring that every child has access to education, safety, and opportunities to reach their full potential. Every child deserves the chance to learn, dream, and build a brighter future.

Empowering Young People Through Career Guidance

Our team had the privilege of participating in the SOS Children's Village Phake Career Day, where we provided career guidance, mentorship, and inspiration to more than 204 young people. By connecting learners with professionals and sharing practical career insights, we helped equip them to make informed decisions about their future.

Investing in Future Skills

One of the month's key milestones was the successful launch of the 3M Future Makers Programme at Central Johannesburg TVET College – Alexandra Campus.

The programme is designed to equip Mechanical and Electrical Engineering students with technical skills, workplace readiness, mentorship, and pathways to employment, directly impacting 180 young people as they prepare for successful careers in industry.

Celebrating the Potential of South Africa's Youth

Throughout Youth Month, we celebrated the resilience, creativity, and determination of South Africa's young people.

Their talent and ambition continue to inspire us, reinforcing the importance of expanding access to quality education, skills development, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and employment opportunities that enable young people to realise their full potential.

Honouring Fathers and Father Figures

June also gave us the opportunity to recognise fathers and father figures who provide guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support within families and communities. Positive role models play an essential role in nurturing confident, resilient young people.

Impact That Inspires

Thanks to the dedication of our partners, volunteers, donors, board members, educators, and community organisations, United Way South Africa continues to create measurable impact across the country.

To date, we have positively impacted:

  • 267,098 people directly
  • 1,575,426 people indirectly

Behind every number is a story of hope, opportunity, and transformation.

Looking Ahead

As Youth Month comes to a close, our commitment to empowering young people remains stronger than ever.

We now look ahead to Mandela Month, where we will continue mobilising volunteers, strengthening partnerships, and serving communities through meaningful acts of service that honour Nelson Mandela's enduring legacy of compassion, dignity, and social justice.

Thank you to every corporate partner, volunteer, donor, educator, board member, and community organisation that has walked this journey with us. Your support makes lasting change possible.

Together, we are creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and advancing the common good.
