Gearing-up for Mandela Day 2023

Mandela Day

Mandela Day 2023 is upon us, and the theme for this year is: Climate, Food and Solidarity.

Mandela Day is an annual global celebration that takes place on 18 July to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. This day is a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela's values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities.

Now, more than ever, humanity needs to confront climate change, persistent and increasing levels of poverty, as well as inequality. For Nelson Mandela International Day 2023, it is the vision of the Nelson Mandela Foundation for the world to unite and act decisively against the consequences of climate change and food insecurity.

United Way South Africa (UWSA) is a non-profit organization that unites and connects all sectors of the society, to create long-term social change through Education, Income stability and Health programmes.

UWSA will commemorate the Mandela Day and Month of July, mainly planting trees, growing and upgrading food gardens at select schools in the Ekurhuleni Metropol in Gauteng Province. These interventions will help to fight climate change and to help communities overcome food insecurity.

We shall do this work through the help of volunteers; however, we call upon capable individuals and corporates to join us, and spend #67Minutes or so, building the nation. We are stronger together. #ItIsInYourHands
