Anti-Human Trafficking Workshop

UWSA at Anti-Human Trafficking Workshop

‘Human Trafficking is the abuse of children, women, and men for their bodies and labour. It is modern-day slavery’.

On the 9th of May 2023, United Way SA conducted training on Anti-Human Trafficking. We had teachers, professionals, social workers, and community policing forums attending. Human trafficking is everywhere. It is in the sex trade, forced labour, and also domestic servitude. Human trafficking is happening near you. Get educated, Get involved.

The focus of the Forum was on what Human Trafficking is, the causes of Human Trafficking and how we can protect ourselves against this global issue. Thank you to all the participants, this proves to be the generation that says “Enough.”

Our children are the most vulnerable to Human Trafficking. Particularly those who are looking for employment opportunities and a better living.

United Way SA visited Ivory Park, Inqaisivele, Thembisa West, and Boksburg Secondary School. We had the pleasure of creating Human Trafficking awareness for both grade 11 and 12 learners.

The campaign focused on human trafficking awareness, prevention, and reporting.

The following topics were tackled:

  • What is Human Trafficking,

  • Types of Trafficking,

  • Different scenarios of trafficking (in the form of videos),

  • How do people become victims?

  • Common recruitment methods,

  • Safe employment and recognising red flags,

  • Healthy vs unhealthy relationships,

  • Grooming and 'lover boy' schemes,

  • Staying safe online.
